VAIL — The Aria Athletic Club & Spa in Vail recently introduced Prisca Boris as its newest yoga teacher. Boris, a former pro mogul skier, has been teaching and developing yoga programs designed for professional and recreational athletes for more than 20 years.
She has taught yoga to various professional and amateur athletes, including members of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard teams and the U.S. Bobsled team, and is now bringing her experience and knowledge to Aria, teaching a class at 5:30 p.m. each Wednesday.
"I took my first class with Prisca 16 years ago and it changed my life — got me hooked on yoga," said Libby Maio, yoga supervisor at Aria. "I'm healthier and stronger than I have ever been. I can't wait to have her back in Vail teaching again."
Boris and her first teacher and mentor, Argie Ligeros spent many years teaching two methods, Cross Training with Yoga and Pulse Yoga. Both methods were designed to increase strength, flexibility and balance to improve performance in sports and increase the overall recovery rate in the body.
Boris' latest collaboration with Ame Onofrey has resulted in the development of the ONO Method. This program focuses on postural alignment and greater strength for increased mobility in the body. Boris has tested this approach to yoga on her students, as well as with herself, and has seen an impact on sports performance and overall health.
To complete the circle of wellness, Boris will teach students about the BEMER — bio electro-magnetic energy regulation — and the benefits of energy work and blood flow. The BEMER is an electro-magnetic mat that aids in circulation. Its technology affects blood flow in the micro-vessels, which comprise 74 percent of the body's circulatory system. BEMER therapy has been scientifically proven to enhance general blood flow, the body's nutrient and oxygen supply, metabolic waste disposal and cardiac function.
"These unprecedented results generate wellness benefits by gently easing the body into homeostasis, at which point it has the wisdom and power to address any systemic imbalance," said Dr. Rainer Klop, of the Institute of Microcirculation in Berlin.
