River cruises rise in popularity
November 16, 2013
Question: What is a hot new travel trend?
Answer: River cruises are definitely on the hotlist recently. Actually, the popularity of river cruising has been unprecedented. I like them because there is no time lost getting from place to place as there is on an ocean or sea cruise. Ports are near each other, you move down the river while having dinner or a few hours during the day if there are sights to see. And, there's no fear of sea-sickness on a river. You get to see the best of the cities on the river and with no packing and unpacking.
The top four river cruise lines, according to a Conde Nast Traveler Magazine reader survey:
1. Grand Circle.
3. Viking River Cruises.
4. Uniworld Boutique River Cruises.
Remember, there is no fee involved to use the expertise of a travel agent. You get the same or better pricing as we are part a large consortium and have access to the best pricing and on board credits.
Question: Is there any where in Europe where I can find a bargain right now?
Answer: The political unease in Greece makes for a great reason to visit right now. You can find low room rates at even some of the best hotels for under $125, including breakfast. And fewer tourists makes Greece even more appealing. You will dine on great Mediterranean cuisine, meet friendly locals, visit charming and history-rich Nafplio, a few hours from Athens, then add Mycenae and Epidaurus to your journey into the past. Then, treat yourself with a three to five day cruise to the Greek Islands.
Question: What is your top U.S. city choice for a special vacation near home?
Answer: My favorite is Charleston, S.C., the ultimate destination for southern grace and hospitality. Everything moves a bit slower and more graciously in this great southern city. Take a horse and buggy ride thru Charleston's historical center with charming alleys and gardens. As for hotels with Charleston charm, I like the Wentworth Mansion, Planter's Inn, John Rutledge House or the French Quarter Inn. (Don't you love the names?) And just 45 minutes from Charleston is Kiawah Island for great golf and beautiful white sand beaches.
