BEAVER CREEK — The Sacred Sounds of Christmas concert returns to the Beaver Creek Chapel on Friday for its fifth year.
The music takes the audience on the journey of Mary and Joseph as they prepare for the birth of their child. Music is interspersed with brief Scripture readings, similar to the Nine Lessons and Carols program done by Kings College in England.
The vocalists — locals Sean Pack, Galen Jacobs, Dore Marrott, Molly Brooks and Meghan Jacobs — have spent most of their Christmas vacation rehearsing after coming home from far-flung spots around the country.
Pack graduated Carnegie Mellon University with a degree in vocal performance and minor in music composition. He started performing with the Vail Performing Arts Academy and Vail Valley Theatre Company as a child.
Pack is a tenor, and you'll hear him with Galen in duets during the performance.
Galen graduated from the University of Denver/Lamont School of Music with a bachelors degree in vocal performance, and a masters degree from the Daniels College of Business. At DU, he appeared in operas and was the musical director in the college's a capella group, Idiosingracies, which won the Mile High Jam vocal competition. He was one of local pianist Peter Vavra students, and is the music director at St. Patrick Parish in Minturn. You might remember him from his performances as Marius in "Les Miserables," and Joseph in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
Marott is the group's musical director for Friday's concert. Her performing experience includes operas and Broadway musicals from New York to California. She earned her masters degree in music in voice/opera from the University of Southern California.
Like her brother Galen, Meghan Jacobs is a voice major at the University of Denver/Lamont School of Music, where she is a senior. Meghan and Galen have formed their own wedding music business, Forte' Music of Colorado.
Brooks graduated the University of Colorado at Boulder and has studied voice since middle school under Maxine Graboyes. She appeared as Cosette in Les Miserables and Cinderella in Into the Woods, and sings regularly for the congregation at the Episcopal Church.
Cellist Graham Olson graduated the music program at St. Olaf in Minnesota. Dawn Poff is the pianist. She attended The Juilliard School.
New this year is violinist Cecile Forsberg, from Summit County. She earned her degree in violin performance and is the artistic director for the National Repertory Orchestra in Breckenridge.
