EAGLE – In typical stand up, the comedian reels off a set of written jokes that are, in many cases, keenly choreographed and timed to set up the punch line and, hopefully, elicit the desired response. Improvisational comedy, on the other hand, couldn’t be more diametrically opposed, with a concept or idea taking on spontaneous direction and, in the right hands, a comic life of its own. Its destination, punch line and response are never the same and almost never known. This is what makes the improvisational form of comedy so unique, unpredictable and exciting.

ULTIMATE EVENING OF IMPROV

Now, bring to the mix a completely new set of players for each show. For that matter, let’s say these players are members of the audience, and now you have the ingredients for the ultimate evening of improv. This is about the only thing we do know for certain about Saturday’s edition of Comedy Night at the Bowlmor. We also know it takes place at The Back Bowl in Eagle at 8 p.m., when comedian and hypnotist Rusty “Z” makes his return to the comedy series.

Rusty “Z” has a groovy hipster persona — replete with beret, shades, goatee and smoking jacket — and has been bringing the “hip” to hypnotist for more than 20 years, repeatedly putting volunteers to sleep and exposing their hidden talents in clubs across the country. Using his mastery of fast hypnotic induction and impeccable comedic timing, his “Hypno A-Go-Go” party brings comedic improv into a new realm with hypnosis demonstration.

ABOUT RUSTY ‘Z’

After a 15-year career as a stand-up comedian, Rusty “Z” (aka James R. Zingleman), decided to switch gears (and persona), to do a stage hypnosis act. He studied both stage hypnosis and hypnotherapy with instructors in the field and is now a certified member of the National Guild of Hypnotists. He has since applied his magical combination of talents and has been featured on both A&E’s “Evening at the Improv,” Comedy Central and the Dennis Miller Show.

Since the comedy series began eight years ago, Rusty “Z” is one of only two acts that have performed for the Comedy Night Series every year. His acts are attended by adults and families alike. According to manager Joe Gonzalez, the show is very family-friendly.

“Hypnosis is one of those things that really intrigues people and when done in good taste, simply cracks people up,” Gonzalez said. “Rusty’s act is without a doubt one of the most unique … and popular shows I’ve ever seen, which is why we continue to bring him back.”
