Sunday is your last chance for Vail’s Oktoberfest

Members of the Denver Kickers Schuhplattlers tempt one of their younger members with beer as they enjoy beverages after their performance at the Lionshead Oktoberfest last weekend in Lionshead.

VAIL — Munich comes to the Vail Village for the final day Sunday for Oktoberfest, which means beer, music and the first of the changing leaves that signal autumn. The festivities kick off with the Fun Run benefiting the Children’s Garden of Learning. The Vail-Summit Orthopaedics Oktoberfest Fun Run will begin promptly at 9 a.m. on Sunday morning at Check Point Charlie on Gore Creek Drive in Vail Village. The course will run along a similar route as it has in years past, heading east from the start through Vail Village toward the Vail Golf Course and finishing back at Check Point Charlie.

Event categories include a 5K run/walk and a kids’ 1K in which strollers are welcome. Adult registration is $25 and kids are $10. Teams of four or more adults will receive a discounted entry fee of $20 but must register as a team on-site at the race. On-site registration and check in will take place from 8 to 8:45 a.m. Sunday, and the event will get going promptly at 9 a.m. with a quick stretch and then our little runners take off on the 1k Fun Run. The 5k will follow quickly follow. Crowd favorites like the bratwurst eating contest, adult keg bowling and adult stein lifting competitions, and a Bavarian costume contest are also on tap today.
