VAIL — Jewelry designer Todd Reed brings innovation to the jewelry world with his use of colored diamonds, and he will show his work in a trunk show at Squash Blossom in Vail Village today and Saturday.

Most people think of diamonds as colorless stones with brilliant flashes of light. However, diamonds come out of the earth in a myriad of color tones. From icy greys and rust reds to misty greens and honey yellows, Reed has embraced the natural characteristics of these diamonds to create his distinctive jewelry.

Reed captivates his customers with the contemporary feel of his jewelry and the uniqueness of his diamonds. Crafted from 18-karat gold, palladium and oxidized silver, each piece is handmade in his Colorado studio.

"The subtle flash of light and the handcrafted process behind his jewelry is appealing in this modern age," said Natalie Andl, a local Todd Reed enthusiast. "People want something that is as unique as they are, something that has a story and a philosophy behind it."

In addition to his fashion jewelry, Reed's line of modern wedding rings puts a refreshing spin on the traditional symbol of commitment for both men and women.

"At each trunk show, I am continually impressed with how his line evolves," said Squash Blossom sale associate Ara Jay Floyd. "There is always a refinement or a new inspiration that influences the direction of his jewelry."
