VAIL — Celebrate the 140th Annual Run for the Roses at the second annual Vail Derby Party at The Sebastian in Vail. The event is Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m. and tickets are $65 in advance or $75 at the door.
"Guests and locals are invited to join us for the most exciting two minutes in sports," said Lance Thompson, general manager of The Sebastian. "Although the Derby only takes two minutes, we plan to fill the afternoon with exciting festivities reminiscent of the parties race-goers attend in Louisville."
Guests are asked to don their party dresses and suits and find the perfect hat to complement their outfit. Hats are required for this special event. Prizes will be given out for the most festive attire, best hats, etc.
The hotel will serve a menu of southern fare, which includes corn and crab fritters with roasted pepper aioli, shrimp cocktail with horseradish, house-made pickles, chicken drumettes with spicy vinegar sauce, crispy macaroni and gruyere and Kentucky hot browns. Drinks such as mint juleps and other creative concoctions will feature sponsor Bulleit Bourbon.
The second annual Vail Derby Party is expected to double in size from the 100 attendees at the 2013 event with many tickets already pre-sold. Tickets are available online until event capacity is met at http://www.thevailderbyparty.com.
Guests of the second annual Vail Derby Party are welcome to stay at The Sebastian in Vail at a special rate of $179 for a deluxe room. Additionally, overnight guests will receive discounted valet parking for $15 and a waived resort fee.
