Vail High Altitude Society column: Swing for the Spirit Golf Tournament a success
May 22, 2014
On Monday, the Sonnenalp Golf Club in Edwards hosted St. Clare of Assisi Catholic School's 13th annual Swing for the Spirit Golf Tournament. Golfers, organizers and volunteers were thrilled with the turnout and the warm, sunny weather. Tournament Coordinator Rob Rothenberg said, "We have had rain and snow for this event in the past, so we were excited to have a great day."
Director of Development for St. Clare Gina Demarest was busy driving the beverage cart with her friend Jenna Palmiter.
"It has been a fun tournament for a good cause. All the proceeds go to St. Clare's tuition assistance fund," Demarest said.
Balata Restaurant at the Sonnenalp provided a continental breakfast, lunch, drinks and an awards reception with appetizers. There were families golfing together and St. Clare graduates hitting the links.
"I graduated from St. Clare's and when I graduate from high school, I want to go to college in Florida or California, where I can golf," Tanner Crisofulli said.
President of event sponsor ANB Bank, Cindy Medina spoke to the crowd at the awards party, "I just want to thank everyone for taking advantage of the opportunity … to help raise money for St. Clare's tuition assistance program."
Awards were announced at the reception. Joan Sego, Leslie Pavelich, Patty Cuny and Kris Woodruff were awarded the first place women's team. Cuny and Pavelich won other awards as well.
Raffle prizes included Zip Line Adventure, Rockies tickets and golf and spa packages. The crowd was thrilled when St. Clare third-grade teacher Karen Werner won a prize. Other teachers and administrators attended as well. The community event felt like a kick-off to summer and warmer days ahead.
Organizer Rob Rothenberg extended his thanks and appreciation to all the sponsors, golfers and volunteers, especially Atlanta Meynier. "Without her help, we could not have done all of this," Rothenberg said.
