July 25, 2013
BEAVER CREEK — This week, the Vilar Performing Arts Center announced its classical series for the winter 2013-14 season, pulling talent from across the globe to meet its goal of bringing best-in-class talent to its 535-seat theater.
Soprano Joyce DiDonato, who performs at the Vilar Center on Feb. 7, is one highlight of the series. Tickets are $150 and on sale now.
A 2012 Grammy Award winner, DiDonato entrances audiences and critics alike across the globe. She is the winner of many honors including most recently the 2010 Gramophone Artist of the Year.
The Haifa Symphony Orchestra of Israel will also make its Vilar Center debut on March 6, as part of the venue's classical series.
The most significant musical institute in the north of Israel, the Haifa Symphony Orchestra of Israel, which encourages the promotion of Israeli culture, features Israeli pianist Roman Rabinovich for the Tchaikovsky Piano concerto. Led by conductor Boguslaw Dawidow, the program also includes Weber's Overture to the opera Euryanthe and the popular Dvorak work, Symphony No. 9 (From the New World). Tickets are $65.
"We work each year to continue bringing fresh talent, and those who sit at the top of their profession, to the Vilar Performing Arts Center each season," said Kris Sabel, executive director for the VPAC. "I feel fortunate that we have not only met but exceeded this standard for our classical series this winter.
It will be full of special moments and rare opportunities to see vocal and instrumental talent at its finest."
Other highlights on the winter classical series include Handel's Messiah and Christmas Concert on Dec. 21 — a Christmas tradition in the Vail Valley that sold out last year; Minetti Quartett, Feb. 19, a young quartet from Austria that has been chosen as "a rising star" and catapulted into the major concert halls in Europe; and Verdi's Rigoletto on Feb. 12, a tragic drama of a father's search for revenge for the seduction of his daughter, whereby Verdi leads us on a whirlwind of rage, revenge and ultimately a tragic death. Verdi's Rigoletto represents one of two nights presented by Teatro Lirico D'Europa this season.
Tickets for these performances and the rest of the classical series are available online at vilarpac.org, by phone at 970-845-TIXS or in person at the VPAC Box Office in Beaver Creek.
