Get your prom dress for less

EDWARDS — The Vail Valley Cares two Thrifty Shop locations bring back their one-day dress sale to the Eagle Valley. The Pop-Up Prom Dress Swap & Sale is in Edwards on April 6, from noon to 5 p.m. The event features gently used dresses for purchase or trade by high school students preparing for spring dance season and prom.

Fancy frocks for the sale are donated by high school students and ladies in the community. All dresses are priced at $40 for this one-day sale, and proceeds benefit the Vail Valley Cares thrifty shops grant program.

The swap was created to help locals save time and money on dress purchases and traveling to shop, while also encouraging charitable ecology through the reuse of existing garments versus buying new.

Say ‘Yes’ to the Dress

“We were thrilled with the success of our first Dress Swap & Sale event last fall,” said Jennie Beaudine, Vail Valley Cares executive assistant. “We collected about 80 dresses total and 30 young ladies walked away with dresses from the sale. Many of them ended up with free dresses in exchange for donating a dress or two.”

This is a valley-wide event and the inventory will be extensive, including a variety of sizes and styles of dresses. To ensure success, dress donations are needed and appreciated. Clean dresses in good, wearable condition may be dropped off in the main office of each valley high school until Friday, April 4.

High school students (or parents) who donate a dress or dresses receive a $40 credit to use for the purchase of a dress during the one-day event. Vail Valley Cares plans to offer dress sale events, as needed, during the school year and credits may also be used for future sales.

Those who donate a dress or dresses also will receive a donation receipt. For information or to donate a dress directly, contact Beaudine at 970-471-2922. The direct donations must be dropped off by Friday.

The Pop-Up Prom Dress Swap & Sale takes place at the Miller Ranch Community Center in Edwards, and both cash and personal checks are accepted (no credit cards please).
