AVON — Walking Mountains Science Center is encouraging more people to be part of the Earth Day celebration this year and is offering a valley-wide essay content for students, as well as discounted home energy assessments and an evening movie. Grand prizes will be awarded for the most thoughtful and practical ideas in each age division (grades 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12), including a one-of-a-kind Walking Mountains snowboard from Weston for the high school winner and tablets for the younger groups.

ENTERING THE ESSAY CONTEST

Students are asked to answer the following question in essay form:

“Describe your vision for new and creative ways to help your community live in harmony on planet Earth. Think big, but practical — what kinds of changes would you like to see that could really make a difference in our valley?”

Submissions for the contest are due at 5 p.m. on Friday, April 11. Essays can be sent to info@walkingmountains.org or dropped off in person at Walking Mountains Science Center in Avon. All essays must include name, contact email, phone number, school and grade. Winners will be announced on Earth Day, April 22, you do not need to be present at the event to win.
