AVON — The new Avon Presents: Bravo! Vail free concert series continues today at Avon’s Nottingham Park with a Celtic jam featuring Colcannon Irish Ensemble. Pack a picnic, grab a blanket or lawn chair and get ready for a wonderful night of Irish music in the park. Colcannon’s music is traditional Irish music blended with chamber music to create an authentic and joyous experience.
TRADITIONAL IRISH MUSIC
Founded in Boulder, Colcannon’s appeal crosses lines of age, gender and ethnic background. While the musical focus is on the beautiful wealth of traditional Irish music — including all acoustic instrumentation, traditional as well as original tunes and songs, with some of the songs in singer and frontman Mick Bolger’s native Irish language — Colcannon’s true message is the story of the resilient human spirit.
The band’s recent CD, “The Pooka and the Fiddler,” received a Parent’s Choice Award for its artful interweaving or music and storytelling. The group’s Emmy-award winning PBS special, “Colcannon in Concert,” filmed at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, has aired nationwide. Recently, Colcannon was named ensemble-in-residence at The Colorado College, the first non-classical musical group to be awarded this position.
Free parking is available at the Elk Lot located on U.S. Highway 6. In addition, Avon Transit is offering free shuttle service for concert-goers to Nottingham Park and Avon Station from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
