Opera singer Anna Netrebko returns to Beaver Creek this winter season

BEAVER CREEK — On Feb. 5 at 6:30 p.m., the Vilar Performing Arts Center will welcome back opera star Anna Netrebko. Netrebko has transcended the boundaries typical of classical music stardom to become one of the world’s most widely recognized and highly regarded opera singers.

Regularly headlining productions at virtually all of the world’s leading opera houses, the Russian soprano became the first classical musician to be named one of Time magazine’s most influential people in the world.

“We are thrilled to have Anna Netrebko come back and share her incredible talents with our community,” said Kris Sabel, Vilar Performing Arts Center’s executive director. “Ms. Netrebko, an international opera superstar who is in high demand to perform around the world, wowed our community when she performed here in 2012. We are honored that she made time in her busy schedule to perform for us again, as well as the many international guests who will be here for the 2015 Alpine World Ski Championships.”

ELEGANT STAGE PRESENCE

Born in 1971 in Krasnodar, Russia, Netrebko studied vocal performance at the St. Petersburg Conservatory. Her beautiful, distinctive voice and her elegant stage presence have prompted critics to praise her.

Since her triumphant Salzburg Festival debut as Donna Anna in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Netrebko has gone on to appear with nearly all of the world’s great opera companies, including the Metropolitan Opera, the San Francisco Opera, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, London’s Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Milan’s Teatro alla Scala, the Vienna State Opera, the Paris Opera, the Zurich Opera, the Berlin State Opera and Munich’s Bavarian State Opera.

UNFORGETTABLE PERFORMANCES

Netrebko’s other signature roles of past and present have included Mimi in Puccini’s La boheme; Violetta in Verdi’s La traviata; Giulietta in Bellini’s I Capuleti e i Montecchi, Elvira in his I puritani, and Amina in his La sonnambula; Donna Anna in Mozart’s Don Giovanni; Norina in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale, Adina in his L’elisir d’amore and the title roles in his Lucia di Lammermoor and Anna Bolena; the title role in Massenet’s Manon; Juliette in Gounod’s Romeo et Juliette; and the title role in Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta.

In September 2013, Netrebko made history as the first soprano to headline three consecutive Metropolitan Opera opening-night galas. Netrebko boasts an extensive discography that includes solo albums, complete opera recordings, and concert repertoire.

Netrebko’s recital is part of the Vilar Performing Arts Center Winter 2014-15 Classical and Opera Series, which also includes Les Violons du Roy, St. Petersburg State Symphony and the Takacs Quartet.

Tickets to Anna Netrebko are $225 or $175, depending on seating, and are on sale now. For tickets and more information, contact the box office at 970-845-8497 or visit www.vilarpac.org.
