VAIL — Singer/songwriter Ned Warner is more than miles away from his native New York City.
Warner landed in the Vail Valley, started the band Ned Warner and Lake County Rain, and understood, as he always has, that there’s nothing like people and a place that fit.
Warner and Lake County Rain perform Friday night at the Vail Ale House.
“Wherever I am I try to surround myself with the best musicians I can find and play gigs locally,” Warner said.
In this case that would be alt-country/Americana music with Casey Boyd on banjo, Jason Taylor on harmonica and Sam Rosenkrantz on bass, with Warner on acoustic guitar and vocals.

Everyone has a day job and other projects, which keeps them interesting. Ned teaches in a local Montessori school, and taught art in some other local schools.
Harmonica player Jason Taylor was recently on tour with John Popper, which requires Taylor to have a fully developed spine because, well … it’s John freakin’ Popper!
‘FOLLOWING MY HEART’
Warner is originally from New York City, and went to Colby College in Maine. He knew Colorado was where he wanted to be when, as a 13 year old, he spent three weeks trekking through the wilderness near Telluride on a backpacking trip.
When the trek was done he was wandering down the street in Telluride when the darndest thing happened.
“Everyone I passed smiled and said hello,” Warner said.
Remember, he was born and raised in New York City, into a family that lives in the world of finance.
“I’m following my heart and my passion. That’s where I belong,” Warner said.
He got his first guitar at 13 and started writing songs. They were pretty awful, he says, but they were his, and he was on his way.
Warner has four full albums and three EPs, with another EP scheduled for release in March.
