EDWARDS — During the first week of March, the Vail Valley will meet Dan Nevins. Nevins, a world-renowned speaker, Wounded Warrior and yoga teacher, is coming to the valley to work with the Vail Veterans Program, a local nonprofit that transforms injured members of the military and their families through individualized world-class outdoor recreation programs that build confidence and create lifelong relationships.
While Nevins is in Vail, he will give a free talk at the Homestake Peak School auditorium Sunday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Hear his story of how he lost both his legs while serving in Iraq 10 years ago. Nevins will share his courageous story of survival and losing his legs during his deployment in Iraq, his road to recovery and the lessons he learned along the way.
“I felt like I had life figured out,” Nevins said. “Then I was introduced to yoga, and it was clear I had so much more room to grow and much more work to do on being vulnerable, authentic and a leader. I learned to face a huge source of shame in my life — my legs — and facing that shame has opened me up to living my most inspired life.”
Since then, Nevins has become a leader of the Wounded Warrior Project. Just over a year ago, he started doing yoga and is now a yoga teacher.
“Dan is one of the most remarkable people whom I have ever met,” said Julie Kiddoo, co-owner of Revolution Power Yoga. “Through his sense of humor and the seriousness to the devastation he has endured, Dan inspired millions of people to be their best selves and to go out into the world and to be unstoppable, despite what their circumstances may be.”
