BEAVER CREEK — The Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir is one of the best-known Estonian music groups in the world. Their repertoire extends from Gregorian chant and baroque to the music of the 21st century, with special focus in the program given to Estonian composers. They will sing for audiences at the Vilar Performing Arts Center on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. The choir has a total of 14 Grammy nominations and two Grammy Awards for Best Choral Performance, and has won numerous other awards in the field of choral performance and recording.

“We are excited to bring this world-renowned ensemble to the Vail Valley. The venue was designed to showcase this type of musical event — with 26 a cappella voices harmonizing and blending in our intimate hall, it should sound ‘other worldly,’” said Vilar Center Executive Director Kris Sabel.

The Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir program will focus on Estonian composers who are celebrating significant anniversaries in 2015 (Arvo Part: 80th; Veljo Tormis: 85th; and Jean Sibelius: 100th).

The group was founded by Tonu Kaljuste in 1981, who was the artistic director and chief conductor for 20 years. From 2001-07, the English musician Paul Hillier took over. During 2008-13, the artistic director and chief conductor was Daniel Reuss, and since 2014, Kaspars Putnins has been the artistic director and chief conductor of the choir.

Tickets to the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir concert are $45 ($10 for students 18 and younger) and are on sale now at the VPAC Box Office (970-845-8497/www.vilarpac.org).
