Give your soil — and your veggies — a seasonal boost

The soil under your feet is alive with billions of living organisms. It’s what gives our garden life, our veggies life, and thus, soil gives us life. But despite soil’s importance, we rarely think about it. It’s time to have a “dirty” mind.

On Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Eagle-Vail Community Garden, gardening experts from Colorado Alpines & Wildflower Farm in Edwards will teach you how to boost the life of your soil during a soil amendment workshop.

Focusing on raised-bed gardening, Wildflower Farm will talk about soil science basics (what’s exactly alive in there and how do they help my vegetables grow?), why we add or amend the soil, what to add to raised beds, how and when we do it and some precautions to take when amending soil. Whether you’ve yet to plant or just put seeds in the ground, this is a great opportunity to see and experience exactly how to improve the health of your soil.

This workshop is free and open to the public. The Eagle-Vail Community Garden is located at 99 Eagle Drive, at the corner of Columbine Circle and Eagle Drive. For questions or more information, email evcommunity garden@gmail.com.
