John Norman Maclean has been writing about wildland fire fo more than 15 years. He visits the Bookworm of Edwards tonight at 6 p.m. in support of his latest book, "The Esperanza Fire: Arson, Murder, and the Agony of Engine 57," which was released in February. The Esperanza Fire started on Oct. 26 2006, in the San Jacinto Mountains above the Banning Pass. It burned 41,000 acres, destroyed dozens of homes and fatally burned five men on a U.S. Forest Service engine crew. Maclean, award-winning author of three previous books on wildfire disasters, first visited the site of the fire in 2007, the spring after it occurred, and he has returned many times since. He covered the lengthy Oyler trial in Riverside, California, and he details both the trial and the fire in his book. Tickets for tonights event are $10. Call 970-926-READ.
