Children invited to paint murals with artist Natalie de Stefano Saturday in Vail

VAIL — The town of Vail’s Art in Public Places (AIPP) invites children to help paint murals that will be placed this summer at the construction site of the Lionshead Playground with professional mural artist Natalie de Stefano. De Stefano has created six large canvases for this Art in Public Places project highlighting summertime sports and recreation. With outlines created by the artist, children will paint the imaginative canvases in bright colors to complete the murals that will be in place during the construction hiatus of the Lionshead playground.

Meet de Stefano at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Vail Arts Festival in Lionshead. The project will take place at the site of the new playground at the top of the stairs at Arrabelle in Lionshead. The artist and volunteers will guide participating children in this free arts activity. All supplies and materials will be provided. Parents are advised that the water based latex paint will easily come off of hands, but not clothes. Tee shirts will be provided as smocks, but you may want your children to dress in appropriate shoes and clothes for this painting activity.

A professional mural artist in the Valley for more than three decades, de Stefano’s murals may be enjoyed throughout Vail. Her recently completed children’s murals at the Vail Public Library have been a huge success. She is currently working on a substantial project at the Vail Ski School at Golden Peak for Vail Resorts.

Arts in Public Places is pleased kick-off its summer programming in collaboration with the Vail Arts Festival. The Vail Arts Festival is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
