Budokon yoga makes its debut at Vail Vitality Center this weekend

VAIL — New to the Vail Valley, the Vail Vitality Center introduces Budokon Yoga with two weekend workshops geared toward intermediate practitioners looking for a unique challenge. Created by Kancho Cameron Shayne, Budokon yoga is an integration of yoga, meditation and martial art elements, and features a curriculum influenced by intelligent alignment principles, the freedom of creative sequencing cultivated in Vinyasa yoga and the circular nature of martial arts. Two-hour introductory workshops led by local yoga teacher Tara Goike Saturday and Sunday offer students a unique opportunity to break down this new sequence slowly and successfully.

“During these identical sessions, students will be introduced to new yoga poses, sequences and hand movements that are influenced by martial arts,” said Goike. “The practice is extraordinary and the experience is very powerful.”

Budokon yoga is the art of seamless transition coupled with the beauty of circular rotation through a thoughtfully planned primary sequence. Shayne calls Budokon “a living art; a constant transition between your yoga, your martial arts and your meditation. They are all one practice.”

Goike has been a yoga teacher in the Vail Valley since 2003 and completed her 30-hour Budokon training with founder Kancho Cameron Shayne earlier this spring. She especially enjoys the Budokon sequence because she can practice her ninja skills, and she looks forward to passing on this fun style of yoga to Vail Valley locals and visitors.

For information or to register for Goike’s Introduction to Budokon yoga workshops, set for today from 2 to 4 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 2 p.m., visit www.vailvitalitycenter.com or call 970-476-7960. Workshops are identical in nature and content. Cost is $20 in advance or $25 at the door.
