VAIL — Eagle-based artist James Van Fossan will be sharing his most recent body of available works with Alpen Art & Antiks in Vail Village. Known internationally for his figure paintings and captivating portraits, Van Fossan is only eight years into his career. He has claimed some of the most coveted accolades in the world, including the Chairman’s Choice Award at Art Renewal Center International Salon and the Collector’s Choice Award for the International Guild of Realism exhibition. Van Fossan’s work is in private and prestigious public collections around the world, and he has been featured in popular publications such as Western Art Collector, Southwest Art, American Art Collector and International Artist Magazine. He will also be spotlighted in the upcoming issue of Luxe magazine (on shelves in January).
“What my work to-date represents is my study of the language and craft of oil painting. Words, like paintings, are used to express our hearts to others,” Van Fossan said. “However, a painting can say so much more, and is understood as though it were a universal language. I paint in a realistic manner simply because I feel my primary goal is to represent truth, reality and to tell the story. I desire to paint and to speak clearly so that the more important matter of what I am trying to say comes through. Like any great craft, the time and detail fostered into a work of realism commands attention and invites the viewer to understand, or at least to consider, the painting. To share my philosophies and thoughts with others in such a beautiful and historical art form is a privilege I am determined to honor as I continue to work with all of my heart and mind on this life-long mission.”
Bradbury Ketelhut, owner of Alpen Art & Antiks and good friend of the artist, is one of many looking forward to the event.
“We are truly excited to be promoting James’ work, as we feel that he is one of the greatest contemporary realists; not only in the Vail Valley, but in the market today,” Ketelhut said. “His gift lies in capturing the personality and minute features of each subject, whether it is a person or an animal. In addition, his cloudscape paintings will bring you back to childhood, when you were lost in the daydreams of the heavens. James is truly a modern master!”
Spiced wine and other holiday accoutrements will be served. Stop by to meet the artist, and be one of the first to view his most recent works.
