George Gallo coming to gallery in Beaver Creek

BEAVER CREEK — Paderewski Fine Art is proud to have in residence Hollywood director, screenwriter and talented painter George Gallo. Born in New York in 1956, Gallo moved to Los Angeles in 1982 with just $800 in his pocket. Having done such films as “Midnight Run,” “Bad Boys” and “Middle Men,” Gallo also considers the act of painting a performance. Trained in the Pennsylvania Impressionist style, Gallo studied privately with Russian landscape painter George Cherepov. During his studies, Gallo realized that the arts of writing, painting and music are intertwined.

His approach consists of painting outdoors en plein air, paying no mind to the size of the canvas. As if directing a film, Gallo directs his brush strokes swiftly through the canvas as he races against time to avoid the changes of natural light. Through the use of thick texture, bold, vibrant colors and the choice of scenery, his paintings capture the viewer’s eye from a distance, inviting them to discover the light and tranquility being evoked by the quietude of trees and streams. The respect and awe toward the natural beauty of the world surrounding us is palpable in his work.

Gallo will be available from 3 to 5 p.m. at the gallery Saturday through Jan. 5. The gallery is located in Beaver Creek Village, across from the ice rink. For more information, call 970-949-6036 or email larissa@paderewskifineart.com.
