Under a Blood Red Sky, a U2 tribute band, comes to Beav

BEAVER CREEK — One of U2’s most celebrated tribute band in the U.S. and beyond, Under a Blood Red Sky: The U2 Tribute will bring all of the hits to the Vilar Center Stage this Friday.

Under a Blood Red Sky is singled out for their passion for truly capturing U2’s sound live on stage. Fans have claimed you can close your eyes during their show and you’ll think it’s really the Irish rock band. Expect to hear all U2’s biggest hits like “Where the Streets Have No Name,” “With or Without You,” “Sunday Bloody Sunday,” “Vertigo” and more.

Comprised of Billy Bono (aka Billy Bunting), guitarist Ted “The Tedge” Gravlin, drummer Jerry “Larry” Bosque and bassist Todd “Adam” Brown, the band has been touring the world since 2005 spreading their love for U2, and basking in the glory of achieving their life-long dream of recreating U2’s concert at Red Rocks.

When asked “why U2” of Billy Bono, he responded in an article with The Westword, “I think it’s because I grew up singing them. They were kind of my heroes, and you know, you emulate your heroes. “

Not only does Under a Blood Red Sky play and sound like U2, their attention to detail creates a visual experience that the most ardent U2 fan would recognize. Under a Blood Red Sky makes every effort to replicate wardrobe, stage props, video/audio choreography, instruments and equipment from many famous U2 concerts around the world. Under a Blood Red Sky is the only U2 tribute band to ever play Red Rocks amphitheater. Fans reminisced at the sold-out venue as the band recreated the ultimate U2 experience not seen or heard since June 1983.

“Tribute bands are a great fit for our theatre for a number of reasons, and Under a Blood Red Sky will be no exception,” said Kris Sabel, executive director for the Vilar Performing Arts Center. “Whether because the original artist is no longer with us, as is the case with our Patsy Cline cover show this week, or because the band is too big to make the ticket anywhere near affordable in our 500-seat theatre, as is the case with U2, we offer best-in-class cover groups that allow our guests to experience their favorite music with incredible accuracy. We will welcome a Queen cover show in March and look forward to continuing our popular tribute tradition in the seasons to come.”

Tickets to Under a Blood Red Sky: The U2 Tribute are available for $28 in advance, $33 day of show. Details and tickets available online at vilarpac.org, by phone at 970-845-TIXS or in person at the VPAC Box Office in Beaver Creek.
