Joann Carhart's painting of Mount Everest was still drying on Tuesday. She hopes to have it ready for the Art of the Valley Gallery First Friday event on Sept. 1. The evening includes art, wine and live music with proceeds from many paintings going to the Sherpa Foundation.

Art of the Valley Gallery hosts its September First Friday event Sept. 1 at its gallery in Avon's Chapel Square from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Pat Hamilton will perform.

The Avon gallery is joining with the Sherpa Foundation, and proceeds from many of the painting will be donated to the organization providing humanitarian aid to Himalayan communities.

Art of the Valley Gallery will be making a temporary move in October to the former police station in Avon, located under Town Hall. During the winter and late fall, it will be hosting its workshops, classes and First Fridays there. Art of the Valley Gallery will be sharing the space with other nonprofits.

September's First Friday will be the last in the Chapel Square location, with art for sale, wine and live music. Pemba Sherpa and his board members will be there with some photographs Woody Woodruff took in Nepal during the earthquake.
