AVON — Starting Hearts’ second annual All You Need is Heart fundraising event educates guests on the topic of heart health and kicks off a community-wide initiative to install automated external defibrillators throughout Eagle County. The event starts with a heart-health expo and breakfast from 7 to 9 a.m. Medical experts will offer free body mass index tests, electrocardiograms, carotid artery and vein ultrasounds, nutrition consultations and more. Immediately following the expo, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., community members will share first-hand experiences with sudden cardiac arrest and nationally acclaimed cardiovascular experts who will present on a variety of trending topics. The symposium culminates at 10:30 a.m. with a live AED adoption auction to support the placement of an estimated 250 publicly accessible defibrillators in Eagle County. The event will be held at Ford Hall, Park Hyatt at Beaver Creek on Feb. 14. There will be free valet parking for the event.
“The All You Need is Love event has changed our lives,” said Karen Gilbert, who attended last year’s event. “Thank you for making this amazing source of medical services available at such a great price.”
Cardiovascular expert presentations include:
• The Positive Impact of Fitness on the Heart and Brain by Dr. Alan Markowitz, chief surgical officer, Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute, Cleveland.
• Techniques and the Future of Cardiovascular Care by Dr. Daniel Simon, chief of cardiovascular medicine, Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute, Cleveland.
• A Prescription for the Heart: Advice, Supplements and Vitamins by Dr. James Fang, chief of cardiovascular medicine, University of Utah, Salt Lake City.
The cost of the event is $125 for one person or $200 for two.
