Dion Parlade Kerns Sr., 50, of Colorado Springs, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 16. He was born in Jacksonville, Fla., to the late Kendall and Vivienne Kerns on Aug. 18, 1963. He shared his life with his friends and family when he lived in the Philippines; Clearfield, Utah; Cortez; Las Vegas; and Minot, N.D,, but he always considered Colorado Springs his home.
Dion was a genuine, compassionate, loving, Christian man. He had an indomitable optimism, a wonderful sense of humor and always had a smile to share even during his toughest challenges. He had a kind, caring heart, was passionate about life and had the ability to make anyone feel special. He never hesitated to lend a hand or to cater any event. During his spare time, Dion enjoyed watching the Broncos, playing billiards and a good practical joke.
Dion loved spending time with his family and was an extremely loving and proud father to his children, Dion Kerns Jr., Annie Kerns, Faith Kerns and Jeff Kerns. He is also survived by his siblings Butch Parlade, Rochelle Oleksuk, J.D. McGinley, Ilene Martin-Hall, Kenneth Kerns, Eugene Kerns and Cedric Kerns; and by his wife, Wendy Kerns, and her children Tim Campbell, Tiffany Campbell and Malachi Campbell.
Services for Dion were held on Thursday at 2 p.m. at Saint James Church, located at 4615 NorthPark Drive in Colorado Springs. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made at any Wells Fargo under the Dion Kerns Memorial.
