Registration now open for Triple Bypass race

EVERGREEN — Looking for adventure? Interested in seeing some of the most scenic parts of the Colorado Rockies from the seat of your bike?

For the 26th year, Team Evergreen will hold the Triple Bypass, along with the Double Triple Bypass and the brand new Relay Triple Bypass on July 12 and 13. The Triple Bypass is a one- or two-day 120-mile bicycle ride along Colorado highways, country roads and bike paths between Evergreen and Avon. The Double Triple challenges riders to ride the first day from Evergreen to Avon, and return to Evergreen the following day for a total of 240 miles.

Proceeds from the Bypass, as well as the Bob Cook Memorial Mount Evans Hill Climb, go toward Colorado nonprofits. In 2013, 64 Colorado nonprofits received more than $175,000 thanks to the cycling events.

“Our organization empowers Guatemalan women by providing microcredit plus loans to help them build businesses and increase income,” said Tori Barnett, marketing and communications director with Friendship Bridge, a nonprofit that routinely receives funds through the races. “We are incredibly grateful for all the donations Team Evergreen has given our organization since 2002.”

A Ride, Not A Race

Team Evergreen emphasizes the Triple Bypass is considered a ride, not a race, but either way riders will get their hearts and legs pumping. Triple Bypass Ride director Jenny Anderson said participants should be prepared for a physically demanding but rewarding experience. And this year, cyclists can take advantage of a twist; teams of three now can complete the ride as a relay, with each team member finishing one-third of the course. A special Ladies’ Weekend package includes registration for a relay team, discount at Beaver Creek lodging, discount on pedicures/massage, bottle of wine or six pack, jersey and a finish line dinner and party in Evergreen.

“We love cycling and love giving back to our local community even more,” said Jennifer Barbour, Team Evergreen’s executive director. “This year we are expanding the ride to make it even more accessible for all levels. Our goal is to give more money to our nonprofits for every year we do these events.”

Registration for the Triple Bypass rides began on Jan. 2. A one day ride costs $150, the Double Triple costs $275 and a relay team is $375 per team. For more information or to sign up, go to http://team evergreen.org/triple-bypass/.
