Women’s tire clinics set for April

Gail Britt, assistant manager for Vail Discount Tire Factory, will offer free Women’s Tire Clinics in April at the tire and automotive service store at 41000 Highway 6 in Eagle-Vail. The clinics will be held from noon to 1 p.m. April 2, 9 and 16.

Topics of discussion will include: how to find the tire size on your vehicle, the meaning of the tire size, which tires are best for the owner’s needs, online versus tire shop purchases, the best time to purchase tires, vital safety checks and warranties.

“Today’s women are much more knowledgeable about their vehicles than their predecessors. Our tire clinics will give them the opportunity to see various tire types and how they may best serve their individual needs. We’ll also have some hands-on learning time, which should be a lot of fun,” Britt said.

A light lunch will also be provided as part of the free clinics. For more information, or to register for one of the clinics, call 970-949-5800.

DSC president inducted into Hall of Fame

Destination Services Corporation recently announced that its president and CEO, Kathy Fort Carty, was inducted into the Colorado Meeting + Events Hall of Fame. Fort Carty was named “Best Special Events Professional” for her unique contributions, committed dedication and positive impact on the Colorado meetings and events industry.

The Colorado Meeting + Events editorial advisory board, composed of 14 industry professionals from around the state, chose the inductees. Now in its seventh year, the Hall of Fame has 49 members.

After a few brief “character building” stints in sales and transportation, Fort Carty says she landed in the events industry purely by accident, or perhaps by destiny. While she was working in Vail for CME Transportation, she heard that Destination Services was for sale. Just 23 years old at the time, Fort Carty jumped at the opportunity. 30 years later, Fort Carty is president/CEO of a multi-million dollar, five-office, 50-plus-employee firm. DSC now operates in Colorado, Utah and Lake Tahoe, and Fort Carty has been an active industry volunteer as a founding member of Destination Colorado and previously served as a board member for what is now the Vail Valley Partnership, Association of Destination Management Executives, Young Entrepreneur Organization and Financial Insurance Conference Planners Association.

She also is passionate about mentoring women who have interest in introducing girls to the benefits of being involved in business, and balancing a happy personal and professional life. For more information on DSC, go to www.dsc-co.com.
