Battle Mountain lacrosse shuts out Devils, 19-0

GYPSUM — Battle Mountain girls lacrosse got well against Eagle Valley on Friday, beating the Devils, 19-0, at Hot Stuff Stadium.

Without Clare Baker, who is still nursing injuries from Tuesday’s overtime tilt with Aspen, the Huskies bounced back from a 14-13 loss to the Skiers.

Siena Miller had her third shutout of the season.

She got plenty of offense with five goals and one assist from Morgan Harty. Anna Trombetta contributed two goals and five helpers. Avery Hynes was in on a lot of the action with two goals and four assists.

Marlee Roetzel had two goals, and Ciara Heiden also scored.

“We’ve got three big games ahead, so that’s one,” Huskies coach Emily Jaissle said.

Battle Mountain is 8-4 and finishes the season with a game at Pine Creek today, followed by Senior Night on Monday against Conifer and a rematch with Aspen on Friday.

The $64,000 question is “Was Tuesday’s game against Aspen the Mountain Conference game?” Traditionally, the first teams of the season between two games is the official league game. But, and this is the big but, Friday’s game against Aspen is a reschedule from earlier in the season.

If Friday’s game at Aspen is in fact the league game, then the Huskies are still in the hunt for a league title. Athletic directors and coaches will have to come to an agreement.

Devils have a smashing Senior Night

Now, that’s a Senior Night.

Eagle Valley girls soccer celebrated its seniors by beating Glenwood Springs, one of the top teams in the Slope, 4-1.

“We played like champions tonight,” Devils coach Stephen Baxter said. “W e took it to them. We played hard and aggressive and came out on top.”

Mariel Gutierrez had all four for the Devils.

And Eagle Valley’s fifth win of the season is the best present that the team could give to seniors Vanessa Garcia. Tiffany Sheehy, Valeria Chavez, Reya Green, Lauren Thorpe and Maggie Gilman.
