Photo and video: Beer truck bursts into flames near Vail

A westbound tractor-trailer rig carrying 42,000 pounds of beer burst into flames near Vail about mid-day Monday, closing all of Interstate 70 for a time and the right westbound lane into Monday evening There were no injuries. Colorado Department of Transportation spokeswoman Tracy Trulove said overheated brakes is thought to be cause of the fire. Both sides of the interstate were closed until emergency crews, including crews from the Vail Fire Department, could get to the scene of the blaze, roughly mile marker 181 near the western base of Vail Pass. It took three pumper trucks from the Vail Fire Department, along with a “water tender” truck from the Eagle River Fire Protection District to fully extinguish the fire. The truck was a total loss.
