Water district honors workers

VAIL — Eagle River Water & Sanitation District honored its employees Wednesday to celebrate employee longevity, certifications earned and other awards. The district acknowledges employees for milestone years of service and recognized 13 employees for reaching five-, 10-, 15-, 20-, and 25-year anniversaries in 2014.

The district’s most tenured employee, Felipe Gurule, retired earlier this year after 41 years with the distribution and collection department. Roby Forsyth celebrated 25 years of service, and Scott Morrow marked 20 years of service. Pete Miller, Bobby Mascarenas and Linn Brooks were recognized for 15 years of service. Eight employees were recognized for five- and 10-year anniversaries.

“Our employees develop extensive knowledge of the water and wastewater systems during the course of their employment,” said Director of Organizational Development Angelo Fernandez. “Employee longevity is vital to the district and the community we serve because staff acquires such an intimate understanding of critical infrastructure. We’re fortunate that so many employees work for the district for decades; they’re dedicated to public service and the environment.”

The district acknowledged 16 employees for professional certifications achieved in 2013. The annual employee recognition event also included the presentation of awards. Angelo Fernandez earned the Leadership Award while Abel Vasquez earned the Employee of the Year Award.
