Beaver Creek’s Rodeo Series kicks off Thursday

BEAVER CREEK — The Beaver Creek Rodeo Series kicks off Thursday for the 13th season. The spirit of the old West is alive at the Beaver Creek Rodeo grounds every Thursday night weekly through Aug. 14 except for July 24. Dates for the rodeo series this summer are June 26, July 3, 10, 17 and 31 and Aug. 7 and 14.

The full lineup of rodeo events includes bronc riding, calf scramble, team roping, mutton bustin’, barrel racing, bull riding and burro racing. The grand entry and national anthem begin at 6 p.m. Rodeo tickets may be purchased at the Beaver Creek Information Center in Beaver Creek Village up to 3 p.m. on the day of the rodeo or onsite at the rodeo beginning at 5 p.m. The rodeo takes place rain or shine, and tickets are therefore non-refundable. Ticket pricing is as follows:

• VIP (adult, senior and youth): $25.

• General admission adult: $20.

• General admission seniors (65-plus): $15.

• General admission youth (13-17): $10.

• Kids (12 and under): Free.

Gates will open at 5 p.m. for each rodeo and mark the start of pre-rodeo activities including pony rides, face painting and kids’ event sign-up for mutton bustin’ and the calf scramble. Mutton bustin’ is $25 per child and open to participants weighing less than 50 pounds and less than 50 inches tall. The young cowboys and cowgirls will hold onto the wooly sheep as long as they can for a prize. The calf scramble is free and open to kids ages 7-12 years old. The first six buckaroos to pull ribbons from the tails of a group of friendly calves win a prize. Burro racing is open to anyone 18 or older. Three teams consisting of three people each race to grab a burro and ride it from one end of the arena. Burro racing is $25 per team and registration is onsite. Audience participation events are provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Beaver Creek Rodeo grounds are located in Avon behind Chapel Square at Traer Creek and free shuttle service is available from the Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa. Free parking is available directly across the street from the rodeo grounds, with a one-minute walk to the site. Alcoholic beverages, pets, and glass containers are not permitted on the rodeo grounds.
