Vail Village Welcome Center relocates for renovation, which will include new restrooms

VAIL — Beginning today, the Vail Village Welcome Center will be operated from a temporary location to accommodate a $1.5 million renovation of the facility, which is located on the top deck of the Vail Transportation Center. The renovation includes a 250-square-foot expansion of the building’s east side to accommodate the construction of new accessible public restrooms, plus a reconfigured interior and a re-skin of the exterior. Construction will begin Monday and will be completed on or before Nov. 15. The contractor is G.E. Johnson Construction.

The project was designed by GPSL Architects and has met all town approvals, including reviews by the Planning and Environmental Commission and Design Review Board.

During the remodel, guests will be directed to the temporary Welcome Center space which is being housed 75 feet to the west in the bus terminal building. The center will be staffed daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Sept. 1 and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the fall.

Renovation of the Vail Village Welcome Center is a component of the town’s guest service enhancement initiative and follows completion of the new $13.7 million Lionshead Welcome Center and Transit Center buildings which opened in 2012. Other guest enhancement projects that will be completed in time for the start of the upcoming ski season include a new entry to the Lionshead parking structure, upgrades to the computerized parking system, new variable message signs for vehicular traffic and improved pedestrian directional signs.
