Vail Daily column: It’s time to live the dream

So, here we are. Just barely weeks away from the one thing we have been so focused on for more than four years. Collectively, we have lots of names we have called it: the 2015s, the Worlds and the World Champs, along with some other names at various times that we may not choose to use at others. Regardless of what we call it, it is ours and it is here … now.

There is both a sigh of relief that what we have looked forward to for such a long time is within sight, and there is already a bit of sadness because we know the Championships will now come and go so quickly. And, that’s the thing about both of these emotions … time.

Friend and Foe

Enjoy every moment and relish every chance you get to meet someone new. Don’t miss a race and show the world how much we appreciate these great athletes. Come to Championships Plaza every night to celebrate those athletes that bested the hill, and then dance in the streets with the wonderful artists who have agreed to perform for us all. …This is our time. Let’s make it count — every day, each hour and every moment.

Time is our friend and our foe right now. There are still many small items to be wrapped up to make sure that the gift we deliver to the world, our Championships, not only performs well, but looks really great, too. We also view these last days as our final chance to make sure that every single person who wants to be here is here. That when we say we are welcoming the world, the world knows that our welcome mat is laid out and we are ready for them. We can use every second we have left to ensure that we deliver what we set out to do all those years ago — create the very best World Championships possible.

Make Every Second Count

It is our opportunity then, and our responsibility, to make every second count. As a community, let’s make sure we learn everything we can about what will be happening during the two weeks of the Championships so that we can be the best hosts possible, helping our guests. Let’s make sure to encourage our family and friends to come visit us during the Championships. Let’s keep telling the world that this is the place to be Feb. 2-15. Let’s roll our sleeves up and finish any projects that are not completed to make sure that we are ready.

It’s Game Time

And then it’s game time, when our time really matters most. Enjoy every moment and relish every chance you get to meet someone new. Don’t miss a race and show the world how much we appreciate these great athletes. Come to Championships Plaza every night to celebrate those athletes that bested the hill and then dance in the streets with the wonderful artists who have agreed to perform for us all.

Saying Goodbye All Too Soon

Share a beer with someone from another country or help out anyone who looks lost. Because this much I know, the time will go very quickly. Before we know it, we will be together at our Closing Ceremony, wishing all the best to St. Moritz, the host of the next World Championships. Our turn will be over. We will be saying goodbye all too soon to our new friends and our champions.

This is our time. Let’s make it count — every day, each hour and every moment.

We have dreamed It for a long time. Let’s really live these Championships — and for the last time in this column, I thank every one of you for sharing your passion, commitment, time and effort for the Vail/Beaver Creek’s 2015 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships.
