Vail Daily obituary: Kam Mohajer, 1953-2015

Kam Mohajer

Kam Mohajer passed away on Jan. 27 at his home in Houston. He is survived by his wife, Vicky Garza-Mohajer, and two sons, Chris and Jack Mohajer.

Kam was born in April 29, 1953, in Mashad, Iran. He came to America to attend the University of Houston in 1973 with “$500 and a kick in the butt.” In 1983, he founded KAM Controls — a research and development company devoted to the creation of innovative measurement instruments and applications for the oil industry. He holds multiple patents and through organizations such as the American Petroleum Institute was instrumental in the development of several new technologies and standards for the industry. KAM Controls remains a leader in industry innovation today.

A loving man of great energy, intelligence and generosity, Kam had many passions.

Chief among these was enjoying time with his two sons, both graduates of the University of Texas, and his wife of eight years, Vicky. He loved to ski, hike and entertain at his home outside of Vail, and traveled throughout the world, spending several weeks each year exploring the vineyards of Bordeaux, France. He loved cars, great food and wine, and spent many late nights at the dinner table with family and friends and a bottle of Bordeaux, talking politics, travel, music, science, food and wine.

During the last months of Kam’s life, he was cared for at home by a devoted team of caregivers — Laura, Jessica, Ariel, Yeni, Mariana and Adrian.
