Special to the Daily |

The Rocky Mountain Freestyle Divisional Championships were in Telluride with moguls on Saturday and dual moguls on Sunday.

With a competitive field of Nor-Am athletes competing alongside a number of development level athletes, this divisional championship was also the last event for athletes to qualify for U.S. Freestyle Championships, adding another tier of excitement to the weekend.

Ski & Snowboard Club Vail athletes earned several podium spots throughout the weekend, highlighted on Saturday by Tess Johnson taking gold for the women and Casey Andringa taking silver for the men in moguls, followed by two other SSCV women in the top 10 — Lindsey Eckhoff, fifth and Anna Park, ninth — and four other SSCV men in the top ten that day Emerson Smith, fourth, Hunter Bailey, fifth, Morgan Osborne, sixth, and Jack Harty, seventh.

Andringa topped the men’s podium on Sunday in dual moguls with several other SSCV athletes taking a top 10 spot — Matt Leseur fourth, Hunter Bailey fifth and Jack Harty in sixth for the men and Lindsey Eckoff in fourth for the Women.

Ski & Snowboard Club Vail qualified four for the Freestyle Junior Worlds in Valmalenco, Italy, on March 25-26.

“Only four men and four women qualify for Junior Worlds from the entire United States,” said John Dowling, SSCV freestyle program director. “So for SSCV athletes to qualify for half of these spots is quite an accomplishment. Tess Johnson, Morgan Schild, Hunter Bailey and Casey Andringa have worked hard the past year to land these coveted spots. I am looking forward to great things from them as they compete in junior nationals and Junior Worlds over the next several weeks.”

Before three of these four SSCV Junior World competitors head off to Junior Worlds in Italy, they will compete in Freestyle Junior Nationals in Park City, Utah, against the top youth freestyle athletes in the U.S. They are Taryn Baker Katie Coyne, Eckhoff, Olivia Giaccio, Kaitlyn Harty, Morgan Harty, Johnson, Anna Park, Andringa, Bailey, Ezra Cope, Jack Harty, Leseur, Morgan Osborne, Emerson Smith and Trevor Wahl.
