Driver arrested in road rage shooting near Vail

VAIL — Two people are in custody following a violent road rage shooting incident on eastbound Interstate 70 on Tuesday.

At 8:49 a.m., the driver of a blue 2004 BMW 325i contacted the Vail Public Safety Communications Center to report he was actively involved in an ongoing road rage incident with the driver of a 2007 white Mitsubishi Outlander. A records search confirmed the Mitsubishi had been reported stolen in New Mexico. The incident reportedly began earlier in Glenwood Canyon and escalated in Vail when one driver displayed and fired a handgun. Both drivers continued eastbound on Interstate 70 over Vail Pass.

Colorado State Patrol provided assistance and stopped the involved vehicles near the Frisco Main Street exit. The Frisco Police Department, Silverthorne Police Department and the Summit County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene. No injuries were reported and the offenders were taken into custody without incident.
