VAIL — Kelly Liken, chef and owner of Restaurant Kelly Liken in Vail, announced today that she is selling the restaurant space in the Gateway Building. The last dinner service will take place on Saturday, May 16.

“We were offered the opportunity to sell the restaurant space, which gives us the unique ability to explore new and different ways to expand our hospitality brand,” Liken said. “We are actively seeking our next adventure.”

Liken explained that Kelly Liken, the brand, is not going anywhere. Instead, she and her husband and partner, Rick Colomitz, are looking forward to the next adventure and what the next iteration of the Kelly Liken brand will be.

“We’re really excited to take this opportunity because it will open a ton of doors for us,” Liken said. “We have no intention of getting out of the hospitality business.”

NEXT ADVENTURE

Though the space in which Restaurant Kelly Liken operates is being sold, Liken has no intention of relaxing. She will continue working with programs that she created, such as Sowing Seeds, a program in local schools that teaches students about the joy of growing, harvesting, preparing and eating their own food. She will also participate in events such as the James Beard Celebrity Chef Tour and has plans to continue culinary programs such as the Annual Vail to Aspen Horseback Ride this summer.

“I feel so lucky to be part of such a supportive community like Vail,” Liken said. “I’m looking forward to our next adventure in the valley.”

VAIL STAPLE

Restaurant Kelly Liken opened in 2004 and quickly became one of the most lauded culinary experiences in the Vail Valley. Liken was named one of the Next Generation of Women Chefs by Bon Appetit magazine and appeared on shows like “Iron Chef America” and “Top Chef.” She served high-profile guests from Toby Keith to Michelle Obama and cooked at the James Beard House in New York City. Most recently, she was part of the James Beard Celebrity Chef Tour in Vail.

“When I was 27 and opened this place, I had these huge dreams,” Liken said. “This has far surpassed anything that I even dreamt of. I’m really proud of it and I consider this opportunity to grow an extension of that success.”

VINTAGE TO OPEN

A new restaurant called Vintage will be opening in the space in the Gateway building in June, in time for the summer season, said Brodie Broderick, owner and general manager of the new restaurant. Vintage will be an all-day concept, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner at “approachable price points” in addition to late night snacks.

To enjoy one more handcrafted cocktail or savor one more sticky bun sundae, Restaurant Kelly Liken will be open and taking reservations for dinner through Saturday, May 16. To make a reservation, call 970-479-0175.
