1Honor those who died while serving in the armed forces— There will be a Memorial Day ceremony today at 3:30 p.m. at Freedom Park in Edwards. The 11th-annual ceremony is being conducted by the Freedom Park Memorial Committee and VFW Post 10721. The program will include local dignitaries, veterans, the choir from Battle Mountain High School and members of Boy Scout troops 222 and 231. The keynote speaker will be Rabbi Joel Newman, a chaplain who is retired from the United States Navy.

2Run through Vail The third annual Vail Valor Races take place today and offer several distances: marathon, half-marathon, 5-mile run/walk and 1-mile family run starting at 8 a.m. The course begins at the International Bridge. While the previous two years of this event were warm and sunny, spring in the mountains can be unpredictable so plan accordingly and bring extra clothing. There will be a table at the finish for you to pick up any garments dropped off at aid stations. Parking at the town of Vail structures is free.
