GYPSUM — A local couple did not have burglars, as they told police, but they did allegedly have methamphetamine, which the police say they found while they were looking for the burglars.

About 3 a.m. Friday, Kaleb Mickley, 31, and Shannon Mickley, 25, of Gypsum, called police to report a trespass in progress.

The person who called police stated that the intruders were coming into the residence through the basement windows and walls.

When Eagle County sheriff’s deputies arrived, they heard gunshots coming from inside the home.

The Mickleys told the deputies they had fired two shotgun rounds into the basement, saying the intruders were coming after them.

Deputies searched the residence and found no sign of the intruders. However, they did locate prescription drugs and methamphetamine.

The Mickleys were booked into the Eagle County Crossbar Hotel on charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, a felony; misdemeanor child abuse; a misdemeanor weapons charge; and three counts of misdemeanor reckless endangerment.

They’re in court at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
