Busted plane tire closes runway

GYPSUM — Beginning late this afternoon, the Eagle County Regional Airport runway was closed down for an hour and a half after a plane blew a tire while landing.

According to Eagle County Airport Manager Greg Phillips, a small, private plane landed and blew out a tire on the runway. There were no injuries and no other damage to the plane. However, the plane blocked the runway into the evening while crews worked to repair the tire and move the plane.

The closure affected a United Airlines flight incoming from Denver, which was held on the ground in Denver until the Eagle runway could be cleared.

As of 7:45 p.m., airport crews said they expected the runway to reopen by 8 p.m. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
