Special to the Daily |

1. Enjoy Manhattans in the Mountains — A kick-off event for Beaver Creek’s Wine and Spirits Festival, Manhattans in the Mountains takes place from 3 to 6 p.m. today and will focus on making and tasting the classic cocktail, which dates back to the 1870s. Manhattans in the Mountains is ideal for those who like the intensity and complexity of spirit-forward cocktails, which are more about enhancing the flavor of the liquor than hiding it.

2. See “Rent,” the High School edition — The Vail Performing Arts Academy will bring a teen adaptation of the popular classic “Rent” to the Vilar Performing Arts Center tonight, cast with local teens. Based loosely on Puccini’s “La Boheme,” “Rent High School Edition” follows a year in the life of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York’s Lower East Side, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS. While the adaptation has been carefully done to retain the dramatic intent of the groundbreaking rock musical, the story does address the mature themes of drug use, homosexuality and HIV (but there is no profanity).
