Eagle County treasurer running in November

EAGLE COUNTY — Eagle County Treasurer and Public Trustee Mari Renzelman has announced her intentions to run for Eagle County Treasurer on November’s ballot.

After the retirement of longtime Treasurer Karen Sheaffer, Renzelman, a Republican, was appointed by the Eagle County commissioners in January to perform the duties until the next general election. The candidate elected will serve the remainder of Sheaffer’s term, which ends in December 2018. Current Eagle County Clerk and Recorder Teak Simonton, a Democrat, recently announced she is also seeking the treasurer’s position.

Renzelman is a native of Eagle County and has worked in the treasurer’s office for more than 16 years, serving as the chief deputy treasurer for the past 11 years. She said understands all aspects of the job, from knowledge of relevant Colorado statutes to all procedures of the office.

“With technology, we have streamlined several of our procedures, allowing us to maintain a small staff, while still providing excellent customer service and 100 percent collection of property taxes for the county, towns, schools and special districts,” Renzelman said.

“I had the honor of working with Mari in the treasurer’s office for nine and a half years, and there is no one better equipped to serve the taxpayers of Eagle County as their treasurer,” said Garfield County Treasurer and Public Trustee Karla Bagley. “She is an expert in the Colorado laws governing the office as well as office operations, and she led a software conversion in 2013 which has provided for much greater office efficiency. Mari continuously looks for ways to provide better customer service to her constituents and is a tremendous asset to Eagle County.”

Renzelman is currently serving her third term as treasurer for the International Association of Clerks, Recorders, Election Officials and Treasurers, as well as serving on the association’s merger and budget committees. She is also serving a three-year term on the Harris Govern User Group Board, providing feedback for enhancements of that group’s software. Renzelman is a member of the Colorado County Treasurers Association and has been attending their educational conferences since 2005.
