EAGLE — The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a volunteer-powered organization dedicated to raising money for children’s cancer research, will host one of its signature head-shaving events at the Eagle Fire Station, 300 E. Third St. in Eagle, on Saturday where more than 100 locals will shave their heads in solidarity with kids with cancer and raise money for lifesaving research.

The head shavings will commence at 1 p.m. and run until 5 p.m. In addition to the hair shaving fun, there will be a silent auction, bake sale and a Knight’s of the Bald Table celebration honoring those who have shaved their heads for the past seven years. Everyone is invited to the after party at The Dusty Boot in Eagle for green beer, trivia and fun.

During the past 11 years, the Eagle head shaving event has raised more than $500,000.

Treatments unique as every kid

Every three minutes a child is diagnosed with cancer; one in five won’t survive, and those who do often suffer long-term effects from treatments too harsh for their developing bodies. From its beginnings, St. Baldrick’s has believed that kids deserve the chance to be kids and deserve the chance at a future. That’s why donations raised at events like this have made it possible for St. Baldrick’s to fund more than $178 million to support the development of childhood cancer treatments that are as unique as every kid.

“Rustle up some sponsors and register to shave at http://www.stbaldricks.org and search ‘Greater Eagle Fire Department,’” said event organizer Natalie Rooney. “If you’d rather keep your hair, come enjoy the day, and help us set a new fundraising record for pediatric cancer this year. All proceeds benefit the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. Together we’ll conquer kids’ cancer.”
