EAGLE-VAIL — This spring, the Eagle-Vail Community Garden will bring the community together to learn about sustainable organic gardening and how to grow fruits and vegetables.

Every third Wednesday of the month, beginning this week and extending through the growing season, the community garden in Eagle-Vail will host a Wednesday Afternoon Club event from 5:30 to 7 p.m., featuring socializing time, appetizers and a presentation on a hot garden topic.

Do you have questions about how to keep your cilantro from going to seed? Need some help understanding if that plant in the corner bed is a pepper or an eggplant? Or maybe this is your first time trying a container garden of lettuce and chard and you don’t know where to begin. Bring your questions — there will be plenty of folks to swap tips and stories, as well as a master gardener presentation at each Wednesday Afternoon Club.

The event on Wednesday begins with socializing and appetizers — bring your own beer — and continues with a presentation on plant companions and planting basics, a topic fitting for the early growing season, including plant placement for optimal complementary growth and plant health.

The Wednesday Afternoon Club is hosted at the Eagle-Vail Community Garden, which is located at 99 Eagle Drive, across from the Eagle-Vail tennis courts, and will take place rain or shine. The public is encouraged to attend.
