VAIL – The Women’s Foundation of Colorado Vail Valley Regional Committee is hosting Donna Orender as the keynote speaker for its annual luncheon and silent auction on Aug. 14 at the Vail Marriott Mountain Resort.
Orender will discuss women and girls’ leadership paths with a gender lens on mentoring and sports.
She most recently served six years as president of the WNBA (Women’s National Basketball Association). Her responsibilities included the oversight of all league operations including both the business and competitive aspects of the league.
Prior to the WNBA, Orender spent 17 years at the PGA Tour, the men’s professional golf tour. She led the negotiating team that changed the paradigm for how PGA Tour golf was both packaged and sold for television, resulting in significant growth for the tour.
She has been recognized as one of the top 10 Most Powerful Women in Sports, one of Newsweek’s 100 Most Influential People in Sports, has been a recipient of the March of Dimes Sports Leadership Award and was honored by the UJA-Federation of New York’s Entertainment, Media and Communications Division for her dedication to the community. Orender recently launched Generation W, a brand focused on educating, inspiring and connecting women and girls. She co-chairs the UJA Sports for Youth Initiative and serves on the board of W.O.M.E.N, a mentoring organization.
Orender has participated in the Fortune/State Department International Mentoring Program, was a global ambassador for Vital Voices, has traveled on a diplomatic mission for the State Department and has been inducted into the Queens College Sports Hall of Fame.
“We are excited to host Donna Orender as our guest speaker for our Vail Valley luncheon,” said Louise Atkinson, president and CEO of The Women’s Foundation of Colorado. “Donna’s lifework has included many leadership roles which have lifted other women and help them make transformational impacts in their own lives. She is an excellent, inspirational choice to help us share our mission and work with the Vail Valley community.”
