N.O.D Basketball Academy begins Monday in Gypsum

GYPSUM — Several local basketball stars and coaches are hosting the eighth annual No Off Days Basketball Academy.

Former Division 1 standout Jon Kedrowski and college coach Bob Pietrack will be joined by professional post player Kirk Archibeque for this year’s camp.

The N.O.D. Basketball Academy runs Monday through Wednesday at Eagle Valley High School.

“Our philosophy is that life is more than basketball, and many aspects of basketball carry over to real life,” said Kedrowski, who played his college ball at Valparaiso University during their NCAA tournament runs.

Every dime from the basketball academy funds two N.O.D. Everest Scholarships, for graduating high school seniors attending college. They’ve awarded the scholarships for five consecutive years.

Kedrowski is an accomplished mountaineer. His heroic Mount Everest climb has been the subject of his extensive speaking and author tour. He also works with schools and youth organizations across the state.

Pietrack is Fort Lewis men’s basketball associate head coach, and has helped the Skyhawks become one of the country’s top NCAA Div. II men’s programs.

“We encourage the kids and the community to come out and be a part of our continuing tradition in the Eagle Valley,” Pietrack said. “We consider it a privilege to return to our hometowns to provide the best individual basketball instruction available on Colorado’s Western Slope.”

Archibeque, at 6-foot-10, plays professionally in Europe, and was the Republic of Georgia’s 2012-2013 league MVP. He will spend extra time working with post players.

The N.O.D. Basketball Academy will feature offensive and defensive basketball fundamentals taught by coaches from the professional, college and high school ranks. Players will also learn education, goal setting, discipline and teamwork skills.

Coaches also include:

• Jeff Morgan, director at both theVail Athletic Club and Vail Vitality Center. He will be the personal trainer, strength and conditioning coach.

• Sarah Brubeck, Berry Creek Middle School coach and former Eagle Valley High Sschool girls basketball star; former Western State College standout.

• Phil Cain, head coach, Grand Junction Central High School boys basketball. He is a former EVHS coach.
