Today's activity: Wildflower hike along Vail's North Trail system.
Conditions: After an annual two-month closure for wildlife and resource protection, Vail's North Trail system reopened to the public on Sunday to an explosion of color along the south-facing aspects it travels along. Wildflowers like heart-leaved arnica, locoweed, penstemon and umbrella desert buckwheat are in various stages of bloom right now, and with the rain we saw Monday, they're looking especially healthy.
Today's weather: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between noon and 4pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 73. South southeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming west southwest in the afternoon. — National Weather Service
