Haute Alpine Couture column: All-American style

Celebrating the good ‘ol U.S. of A. is easy as red, white and blue. Boasting your patriotic swagger means finding super-cute, all-American styles that give your summer theme a laid-back look. The 4th of July color palette will lift your American-pride as you wave your flag curbside during the Vail American Days parade.

Red, white & blue

Nothing says a July 4th barbecue like patriotic wedges. Strut your summer style in a pair of Sbicca shoes, featured at Colorado Footwear. The brand shows off stars and stripes with flag-swag wedge sandals — Sbicca Vintage “Americana” high wedge ($74.99), Sbicca Handmade “Liberty” mid-wedge ($64.99).

Peekaboo shirts will reveal just the right amount of patriotism. Begin with a classic cami from Second Base ($32, Pepi Sports) in scarlet, traditional white or midnight. Throw over a red and white striped, linen Frank & Eileen Barry button-down ($198, Perch) and pair with cut-off jean shorts. As the night goes on, fend off the alpine chill in the recycled cotton Heather Blanket Cardigan in garnet ($148, Perch).

Give your own State of the Union address by showing off sleek abs in the Commando dip & flip marine-blue bikini ($65 top, $65 bottom, Perch). This Daisy Duke string ensemble will have your fashionista frienemies humming the National Anthem at your feet.

Your all-American style doesn’t have to be a flamboyant announcement. A hint of nationalism on your wrist will do the trick. Hippie-chic jewelry line, Kim & Zozi ($40-$160, Roxy) features bohemian-inspired patterns that validate your unwavering loyalty to freedom.

Shade your beau’s baby blues with a pair of mountain, chi-chi sunglasses. You may not be surf and turfing it, but the Maui Jim “Peahi” sunglasses in white ($219, Beaver Creek Sports) are perfect for blocking the glaring sun while driving over Vail Pass or relaxing during July 4th cocktails. Tough and light, the Julbo Wave ($120-$190, Eye Pieces of Vail) is designed for those guys who play hard on the water. A removable protective frame skirt eliminates spray in the eyes and the polarized lenses provide maximum protection against the high-altitude sunshine.

National beauty

The top-of-the-world climate may not be conducive to beachy-waves, but you can still achieve that sun-kissed, all-Americana look with the Fekkai COIFF Oceanique — Tousled Wave Spray ($25, Cos Bar). This styling mist will give tresses a super-chic-just-from-the-beach style that is flexible and touchable. Combine beach-inspired locks with a just-kissed lip stain and you’ll be ready for the July 4th party scene. The Laura Mercier Lip Stain in scarlet ($20, Cos Bar) will bestow a seductive color upon your lips as if you just ate a bowl full of summer cherries.

If you’re a “Rebel Without A Cause” kind of patriot, you’ll need to protect your “mother” tattoos. Try Coppertone Tattoo GUARD sunscreen stick ($5.99, Walmart in Avon) to prevent sunburn on your sensitive spot. The SPF 50+ antioxidant-rich formulation is designed to protect against UV rays that can fade or blur tattoos.

The American way

Running a marathon for someone special or as an anonymous donor is part of the American way of giving back to the community. Tough Girl Tutus ($29, Basalt, 970-389-7744) designing duo bring fashion-forward fun to race day. Designed by racers for racers, the Basalt-based Tough Girl Tutus has a wide, built-in waistband and flowy material that won’t interfere with your pace and race bib toggles to eliminate the need for safety pins or a race belt. Debut your Tough Girl Tutu at the Ragnar Relay Colorado (Sept. 6-7), a 200-mile journey over the mountains of Breckenridge, Vail and Aspen/Snowmass benefitting HERA Women’s Cancer Foundation.

If training before July 4th festivities is on your agenda, keep cool like elite marathoner Lauren Fleshman in a white Oiselle Origami Tank ($42, Dogma Athletica) or blue Mio Mesh tank ($52, Dogma Athletica).

Energy Muse Jewelry’s Celebrate the USA wrap bracelet ($12.99, Finis Boni, Edwards) is a handmade piece that supports Team USA and the U.S. Paralympics Athletes, with proceeds of each bracelet purchase directly benefiting Team USA. The stones featured in the wrap bracelet include red carnelian (promoting confidence, protection and courage), white agate (the stone of warriors) and blue sodalite (enhancing endurance, inner peace and focus).
