VAIL — Local cyclists are officially on the clock as registration for the 2013 edition of the “Scout the Stage” citizen’s ride continues. The ride will take place on Aug. 22, in advance of Stage 4 of the U.S.A. Pro Challenge, which will take the pro riders from Steamboat Springs to Beaver Creek.
Scheduled for a 10:30 a.m. group start at 4 Eagle Ranch, north of Wolcott, the 2013 Scout the Stage will feature an 18-mile option, as well as a 28-mile option, for cyclists of all ages and abilities. The 28-mile option will include the new Bachelor Gulch climb, with 3,700 feet of climbing, while the friendlier 18-mile course will take riders directly to the finish line in Beaver Creek Village.
Early registration is priced at $110 per person and includes the Scout the Stage ride, a special commemorative Pearl Izumi Scout the Stage jersey, gift bag, lunch and beverage vouchers in Beaver Creek Village and a New Belgium beer at the Beaver Creek finish line. The registration fee will increase to $120 on Aug. 1.
Rider and bike transport will also be provided to 4 Eagle Ranch from Beaver Creek/Avon. Participants can also park at 4 Eagle or ride out to the start.

The 2013 U.S.A. Pro Challenge descends on the Vail Valley Aug. 22 and 23, with the Steamboat to Beaver Creek Queen Stage on Aug. 22, and the Vail Time Trial set for Aug. 23.
